NATURE AND SPRING
Carinthian Roman Spring
and Kotulje Saline Spring
The story of the Roman Spring, a natural gift that for centuries brought people together in search of health, relaxation, and enjoyment in the unique sub-Alpine landscape beneath Mount Uršlja gora, began right here, where the Uršlja gora Nature Experience Park now extends.
Kotulje saline water was widely known as an excellent medicinal water for kidney diseases and bladder ailments. It was recommended for women's diseases, as well as for anemic individuals, diabetics, and all those recovering from chronic illnesses. It was believed to have a particularly healing effect on the nervous system, as well as the respiratory and digestive tracts, especially in cases of pneumonia and inflammation of the esophagus and stomach. It was believed to have an extremely healing effect on children's health.
The water from the Roman Spring was renowned for its high content of calcium bicarbonate and abundant free carbon dioxide. It was distinguished by a very pleasant, refreshing taste that remained unchanged even after a long time if the water was stored in well-sealed bottles.
The tasty and medicinal water was bottled and sold to residents of nearby towns and even in Vienna – Emperor Franz Joseph himself refreshed himself with it.
